Albany, New
York was among the earliest permanent settlements of the original thirteen U.S.
Colonies and is the second oldest chartered city in the nation.
Known as the “Crown Jewel” of NY, Albany was designated state capital
in 1797 and has the distinction of being the site of the first American
railroad. The railroad spanned eleven miles and ran between Albany and Schenectady.
Today, Albany is a burgeoning city with a population of more than 95,000
residents (Census
2000 data).
Albany’s fascinating history lends itself to a wealth of rich cultural
