Broome
County, New York, located in the heart of NY, is a
scenic region full of natural beauty, quaint historic towns
and thriving cities. Considered the crossroads of the New
York’s Southern

Endicott
and Johnson

Broome County began its economic life as one of the leading
cigar manufacturers in the country. Manufacturing remains a
large sector of the economy, but the County is also the
birthplace to the world-renowned IBM
Corporation and the flight simulation industry, begun by Link
Aviation. Broome County is also home to the Endicott-Johnson
shoe factory.
Binghamton
University and Broome
Community College, as well as smaller local colleges and
universities provide the work force with education and
training for new corporations entering the County. The
American International Group, Pepsico,
Unisource,
and Norfolk
Southern Railroad are just a few of the newcomers to
Broome County, NY. The Binghamton
Regional Airport, with international capabilities, serves
these and other firms well.
According to the 2000 census, Broome County’s population
numbered just over 200,500. Many local and state tax incentive
programs are in place, encouraging new business growth for
the area and targeting full employment for all Broome County
residents. The
Southern Tier East Economic Development (STEED) Loan fund
is one of these, which works along with the Broome
County Industrial Development Agency. New
York State itself boasts one of the richest and most
diverse economies in the nation. More Fortune 500 companies
headquarter themselves here than anywhere else, and Broome
County keeps an eye out to attract more to their sector.
According to the 1997 Census of Manufacturers, The
Broome-Tioga County area employees rated as some of the most
productive in the nation.
The quality of life also rates high in Broome County, while
housing prices are 10% lower than anywhere in the state.
Located at the confluence of the Chenango and Susquehanna
Rivers, Broome County remains one of the most picturesque and
lovely areas in Upstate New York. Gently rolling hills abound,
with rustic villages thriving not far from modern cities.
Known as the 'Carousel Capital of the World', Broome County
boasts six different wooden musical carousels,
with only 170 still existing worldwide. Cultural activities
abound in the County, with the Anderson
Center for the Arts keeping things lively. The Roberson
Museum and Science Center, the Ross
Park Zoo, the Hanford
