About New York
Tioga County, New York nestles in the southern Finger
Lakes Region of the state. Long known for its vast array of
recreational and tourist activities, Tioga
County is building quite a reputation as an excellent
region for relocation of families and businesses.
Nine towns make up Tioga County, as well as several
villages and hamlets. According to the Census 2000, Berkshire,
Owego
and the town of Tioga range from populations of 1,300 to over
20,000. The county itself registered at almost 52,000 people.
Much of the region is lovely agricultural farmland, with 69%
designated as rural area. Many of the residents commute to the
more metropolitan areas of Binghamton
and Elmira,
NY for employment, as well as Sayre,
Pennsylvania, which the county borders.
Tioga County boasts the lowest crime rate in all of the
five surrounding counties. Housing costs remain low and
affordable, while quality of education is outstanding. Cornell
University, Binghamton
University as well as Syracuse
University all lie within easy driving range.
Tioga County residents are highly skilled workers and well
trained in such high-tech industries as electronics and
aerospace. The IBM
Corporation, Universal
Instruments, NLX
Corporation as well as Lockheed
Martin all call the region home. BioLife
Solutions, Inc, Best
Buy Co., Inc. and Hidden
Valley Electronics have recently relocated into Tioga
County. The Department of Economic
Development and Planning works closely with incoming
firms, and the County as well as the state of New York offer
many incentives
for new businesses.
While the economic future of Tioga County shines brightly,
residents still enjoy the rural and historic beauty of their
region. In the tiny hamlets and villages, the downtown
districts retain their historic building and tree-lined
streets. Romantic bed and breakfasts are scattered throughout,
and antique shops abound.
The Susquehanna
River offers some of the finest trout fishing in the
region, while the Finger
Lakes Trail awaits avid hikers, crossing remote and
beautiful areas of New York's Southern Tier region. The Tioga
Motorsports Park delights race fans, while golfers enjoy their
choice of eight different courses. Winter turns Tioga County
into a wonderland for outdoor enthusiasts, with ice-skating,
cross-country skiing, and ice fishing.
With its lure of natural beauty and its high quality of
life, Tioga County residents can plan on a bright and abundant
future. |
